BBCs hit Sherlock provides a fascinating model of unconventional relationships that stands out from almost everything else on the air right now, and Alyssa’s interview with Steven Moffat last week in which the relationship between Sherlock and Holmes came up was a fascinating glimpse into Moffat’s mind as a creator. I have my own issues with Moffat (oh, do I), but one thing I have to admit he’s done brilliantly with Sherlock is expose audiences to the idea of complex emotional connections between human beings that are not necessarily based on romance or sexuality. And I’m glad to know that this is a deliberately and carefully thought-out choice on his part.

Of all the games hardware companies out there, Nintendo is the one that has dragged its heels the most when it comes to embracing digital content for its platforms. Things have improved significantly over the lifetime of the Wii and with the introduction of the 3DS, but Nintendos devices are still playing catch up to rivals.

With the launch of the PS Vita, Sony took the step of promising to release every game in digital form day-and-date with the retail version. CEO Satoru Iwata has now confirmed Nintendo will do the same with its first party titles for 3DS and the Wii U when it launches.

Well over half of people globally use the Internet to search for information on entertainment and hobbies, according to a new survey.

The online poll of more than 19,000 adults world-wide in countries ranging from the United States, Argentina and Sweden to Japan, India and Russia showed that 57 percent of people said they visit web sites for hobbies and other interests, 43 percent downloaded music and 34 percent searched for movies.

But usage in the 24 countries surveyed varied widely, with 72 percent of people in Turkey saying they visited sites for hobbies, while only 35 percent in Saudi Arabia did.
